Licensing and Support
Our software assurance provides you peace of mind in the event of any problems. Our Spielberg software assurance support package has been specially designed to ensure you the best possible technical support after purchasing our software. Downtimes are minimized, and the efficiency gained by using our products is not put at risk.
With valid software assurance, regular updates and upgrades are available for all current versions, plus support hotline via authorized distributors, support call history and optional diagnosis via remote access.
Spielberg maintains support for older versions of the software until three years after discontinuation of the software.

We announced the withdrawal of support for the FileDirector version 2.7 at the end of October/2016, FileDirector version 3.0 at the end of September/2018, FileDirector version 3.1 at the end of April/2019 and FileDirector version 3.2 will be the end of November/2019.

We offer extensive support services – within certain constraints. We regret that we are unable to help with the following:
- User training or administrative tasks;
- Virus removal and/or rectifying any damage caused by viruses or other errors
- Check, backup and recovery of databases and the associated data;
- On-site services relating to problems arising through administrative error (including loss of data) or problems covered as part of a training event.
Each FileDirector server installation is activated using a license file, which contains the name of the licensee, the licence options, serial number and specific server parameters.
The serial number is a unique, 25 character code, which is supplied upon purchase of a FileDirector system. Enter this number when running GetSiteCode.exe. This will produce a SiteCode file, serialnumber.fds. For more information about licensing, please refer to the manual – chapter Licensing.
Remote support is the perfect solution when you need immediate assistance, or if there are problems with a Spielberg component installed in one of your foreign branches. Our specialists can solve problems remote – only an internet connection is required.
Remote support is free for you if your system is under valid software assurance. All you need to do is to contact our support team and they will provide a six-digit PIN code. This code is valid for 20 minutes or for the duration of a remote session. The code permits download of a special support program so that our specialists can check your system, if necessary, configure it.
Remote access is possible on practically all Windows PCs. No changes to the security settings on the PC, or even to the network and IT security infrastructure, are required for this to operate.
